Written August 2005 for good friend Doug Hackney, who turned to me for guidance after he realized that not having a college degree in literature had left him thoroughly unprepared for life. Embarking on what I was sure would be a 45-minute diversion, I spent 9 hours digging through my library and writing this piece before sending it to Doug. He never acknowledged receipt or commented. We remain friends. He continues to miss out on all my literary allusions. You needn't do so. Just click below.

Lee will always let you know if something is boring, forced, good, weak… He teaches you how to be your best critic without getting discouraged. Lee lays out all the important rules of playwriting, and it's up to the playwright to really hear what he is saying and use it.”
